Every Person Who Works Should "Take A Break" And Go On Vacation!

Most people who go on vacation come back needing a break due to the vacation. Why? Because they do too much physical activity, which creates the feeling of being tired and weak. Camping is great, but by the time you lug that tent around, put up the poles, and pump up the air mattress...then take a few water rafting trips, play some volleyball, and eat a bunch of fattening foods; you've had it. And you still have t take it all down, put it in the truck, and clean it, and put it back in storage at home.
No frequent flyer miles, so you pick a 'once in a lifetime cruise'.
“So your heart is really set on Italy, England, or Spain...buy the best travel video for each destination, or for Europe, and pour yourself a drink...you have a much better view from the widescreen video.”
The children find there are problems with the pool system, so all the pools are closed. You can't get your money back, because you set sail shortly after boarding the boat. There appears to be a smell coming from the room next door, but no one can get into the room. Finally, the three day old fish is removed from the neighboring cabin, but the air vents are stuck, and you will have to wait for the smell to die off.
Finally, everything is as it should be, and the family is having a great time, and someone is murdered in their stateroom. The investigation keeps the boat in the first stopoff point to try and resolve the murder, so your family is held back for interviews. Eventually you can go on the sightseeing tour, only to find out that it's so crowded there may not be enough food. This has become the vacation from hades. The real break would be getting to the office for some peace.
The vacation you need may not require a tent, an airplane, hotel, or boat. Maybe what you need is to stock up on your favorite foods, and make sure your grill is working ( or fireplace in winter). Do you like to read, listen to music, or swim? Make sure your YMCA membership is current, or you can pay for pool use and make sure it isn't going to be drained during your vacation. Buy a great book, and some pleasing sounds. Send your children to stay with family or friends, and if your wife is on vacation too, just set up the house, and kick back at home. If she works, then tell her to keep it down, as she leaves the house in the morning. Let her know you are on your own, so please no alarms.
Make sure you have your sunglasses and tanning oil, if it's summer, and let yourself enjoy the chaise lounge on the deck or patio that you spent so much money on. Instead of watching the snow pile up on it, or the rain pound it, just lay back and get that tan. Take a break from the stress of airport security lines, or bad food that could make you sick. "Take a break" from trying to get from point A to point B in bad weather. "Take a break" from all the things that go wrong on the 'vacations from hell'. Kick back in familiar surroundings, with all the things you bought for the home to enjoy when you get time. Now is the time; and it doesn't cost a thing.....you had to eat anyway!

You raise interesting conundrums about vacations. Our family happens to travel a lot. Not me personally. I'm fussy about my vacations and used to take many day trips just by myself. I'd go exploring. But Mitch and Amy enjoy traveling and go about four or five times each year. In fact they'll be going on one vacation. They've gone cruising and always enjoy heading south in our winter up here. They know how to vacation and have a fabulous time. And I mean fabulous! I've gone along quite a few times including cruising. I absolutely loved it. I experienced incredibly good food, every time. Our own table in the nicer dining room, with incredible service and had incredibly wonderful memories. I loved, loved, loved it. I spoil easily. But your points are well taken. Possibly that's why the Travel Channel has the show "When Vacations Attack" - lots can always go wrong. They had to give up the vacation to Ireland last year because Amy had a medical problem that did not allow her to fly.
I have the horses and the site to keep up so I'm not vacationing anywhere. I can hardly leave for the afternoon.
Interesting read and likely scenarios though. Please log in to respond to this comment.
