Predators, Pedophiles, and Perverts Prey On The Vulnerable In Our Society: Educate Your Children!

The scandal at Penn State gives us an opportunity to review what is going on in our society, and how to protect our children, our families, and the most vulnerable in our communities. That protection comes from educating ourselves on 'what to do, and what to teach our children, and the vulnerable; the disabled, elderly, and disadvantaged. Please, make that information a priority today.
1. My son was in third grade, and had almost a mile driveway to walk from the bus stop, along with a kindergartener and a first grader. The three got off the bus one day, and decided to walk through the fields instead of the dirt road. At the top of the hill, where the road spilt the children would have gone different directions; a green car with a man in it stopped in the road below the hill, and motioned for childrent to come over.
My son, who had been trained NEVER to go to a stranger's car or even have a conversation with someone I had not approved of previously, took the two smaller children and ran for the woods; then taking a non-road approach; he took the children home. Needless to say it saved them all, as a news broadcast a few days later said a man in a green car had been trying to pick up children at a local elementary school. We felt very blessed he had avoided that encounter.
2. A female friend, when we were in our early thirties with children, was uptown in Asheville, when a man came out from the alley and tried to kidnap her. She was wise enough to start screaming "MY CHILDREN, MY CHILDREN! What about my children!", but the children weren't with her, at the same time she slipped to the sidewalk screaming, which made the perpetrator run away... realizing people were being alerted to her predicament. The screaming and sliding to the ground made his kidnapping her almost impossible.
3. My husband in the late 1970s stopped at a fast food restaurant for coffees and a take out breakfast, for him, and another employee. It was around 6 a.m. He had two big cups of hot coffee, and two bisquit meals in a bag, so his hands were full. A man in a convertable with the top down circled the restaurant, and stopped in front of my husband blocking him from crossing to his truck.
The man was fully exposed in his private parts with no shirt. The pervert had his pants down around his ankles, and was about ready to proposition Tom, when Tom just heaved the hot coffee into his lap.....needless to say a lot of intense pain caused the man to quickly start looking for something to relieve his hot coffee distress; as Tom got in his truck and left.
The other guy at work was so proud of my husband he bought the coffee that day, elsewhere. Fortunately, no gun was involved, as the man was not taking his life seriously by approaching my husband. These perverted predators are bolder with the adults. The pedophiles are more cunning and secretive, in order to get a child's trust. Pedophiles are almost always multiple offenders.
So please instruct your children, and family members how to avoid situations, that could cost them either their lives, or great sorrow over sexual assault. There are so many sexual predators in our country, and never think it can't happen to you. Many people I know have survived or avoided an incident by using common sense, or whatever is in their hands, or just running away. I could relate several stories of those I know, who didn't escape as well. Prepare those you love, and make sure you know what to do if you are attacked.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)This is so great and with good endings. My word we're living in a bad world when people do so much to others. A study done a few years ago test children and their behaviors if approached by someone who was offering them candy or was telling them that he had lost a puppy and could use some help finding it. The person acting as the pervert was an actor but many of the kids, despite training and cautions at home, went with the stranger. Scary stuff, all of it. I am protective of my people - fiercely. As usual a fine article. Please log in to respond to this comment.
Fantastic article with much moral rectitude. I personally feel that there is a larger network involved, and I fear what is going to be unfolded will be more than people want to acknowledge. Good writing. Please log in to respond to this comment.I agree with you, and the fact that the Judge did not step aside due to her conflict of interest with Sandusky's organization (as a volunteer), it screams red flag!
