Remembering Ricky Nelson, And A Concert I Attended Before His Fatal Plane Crash!

Most music lovers attend concerts all the time, however, I'm one of the music lovers, who hates crowds. I've seen a few famous people in my time, but I was never a 'groupie', and I've never followed anyone too seriously. One of my friends was able to get some first row seats at the Ricky Nelson Concert, at the Asheville Civic Center, in one of the years preceding Nelson's death in 1985.
The women went bananas, at seeing Nelson's skin, and this is a time past his popularity prime in music. Now here I am taking all this in and enjoying the energy of these people, who in church wouldn't make a peep, let alone jump up and down to praise God. Now the same results had happened at the Elvis, Beatles, BeeGees or other concerts, over the years of RockNRoll's beginning. Americans have a fascination and desire to idolize people, it consumes them.
Nelson had a relatively long marriage to Kristin Harmon, and had four children. The family relationships were tense with Ozziet and Harriet later, so that when Kris and Rick split, it was a ten year vindictive and horrible divorce. One tidbit some may not know is that Mark Harmon of NCIS had been Ricky Nelson's brother-in-law. Kris was portrayed quite terribly by Nelson's family and fans.
Rumor claimed that Ricky Nelson had one other child with a woman in New Jersey, some say was later proven by tests. When his plane crashed in that firey 'plunge to the ground, there was his fiancee and several other people returning from a two week project, where they were working on "ironically" Buddy Holly's "True Love Ways". We have lost a lot of talent in tragedy.

When I was a teenager, I got "Travellin Man" in my mind so completely that I almost went over the deep end trying to get it out of my mind. He had the sleepy eyed look of Elvis, but the clean edge of a flawless Hero. So sad that these celebrities can't stay out of small planes. Think of all the deaths sometime. Loved your piece. Please log in to respond to this comment.
I was thinking not long ago about all the notables that have gone down in plane and car accidents. That's a whole lot of talent.
That woman that grabbed Nelson's jeans must have had some grip. I mean to rip jeans? She was one determined alli gal or.
You guys had great seats. I've had up close seats and nosebleed seats and everything in between. I bring orchestra glasses when I'm farther away so I don't miss too much. When you're up close though, the personalities are much more likely to interact with you so, for me, it's up close when I have the choice. Just pllllease! Don't give me a head in my field of vision.
Back to your nicely written piece. I always liked Nelson and thought him "hot" - You told me a few things about him I didn't know. Thanks. Liked it lots. Please log in to respond to this comment. The jeans were worn, and at the time I think it was popular for them to have holes...lol She was a groupie, no doubt in my mind...lol The reason he tied the scarf around the leg was the huge hole showed his leg well. No need for a repeat attack. Please log in to respond to this comment.
