What Constitutes Family, And What That Should Mean To You

The ability to write about family means that there is plenty to say, and I have already covered that territory in a different kind of article. However, our immediate family isn't all there is, because each of us have extensions of our families, and some are friends, spiritual mothers or fathers, or adopted family. We meet people over time, who become a part of our lives, and we can't imagine not having them around. In fact, some are closer to us than real family members, and are the reason for who we become.
For some it is being adopted, and finding a family very different than the one they were born into, for others it is a provision of divine ordinance to fulfill one's destiny. As I look back over the years, it is comforting to know that what I would need during tragedies and broken relationships had already been provided, before the need arose. This makes the reality of God more real.
Now, those women are experiencing the winter of life, one is in a nursing home, and the other is struggling with her health; I can't even imagine how things may have turned out, if I hadn't had them as part of my extended family. The fact that I never had brothers or sisters didn't matter, because there were two adopted sisters, who filled many shoes in those interim years, when other real family members lived far away. Family is who and what you choose it to be.
