The Events Of 9/11 Are Like A Branding Iron

Remembering 9/11, is like reviewing all the tragedies our nation has faced in the past twenty years. Our thoughts are like those, who lived when Pearl Harbor was attacked, it is burned into our memory. Those who have had the loss of a family member, in a tragic event in their lives, can relate to the victims of 9/11.
During Labor Day Weekend 2001, we had been to Myrtle Beach, SC, and returned home on that Tuesday. Our return trip conversation was about Washington, DC, and we prayed for our leaders. There were deep concerns over world changes, that didn't seem right. However, there was no way to be prepared for the events, that would unfold a week later.
When we entered the Feed Store, everyone was glued to the television, and another plane was hitting one of the towers. The realization, that this was not an accident was immediate, to me. Thoughts of the previous bombing, the USS Cole, the Oklahoma City bombing were reverberating in my mind. We left, and did not buy anything.
There was Mayor Guilliano, President Bush, the rubble at Ground Zero, and the tireless workers. The Memorial Services, and the coming together in unity, as a nation. We were Americans, once more. United in our goal to prevent any future attacks, relentless in our pursuit of evil, and Osama bin laden. As time passed, the unity began to evaporate, and we returned to our divisive politics.
We are Americans by birth, or by choice, and yes, we have enemies in our midst. However, Freedom is NOT Free, and we must choose to honor the memories of those who have died, both at the World Trade Center, and in defending the honor of our nation. God Bless the Victims and Survivors of 9/11, and God Bless America!
